(2006) The Lake House.
ROMANTIC DRAMA.
Remade from a movie from South Korea called "Il Mare" or "Siworae", this Hollywood version stars Keanu Reeves as Alex Wyler who has just moved into a "Lake house" with many glass windows. And he had just moved in except that he didn't know that the previous owner who happens to be a lady used to live there too who is Kate Forster played by Sandra Bullock. We soon find out that it's not just any ordinary lake house but is also a magical one with a time travelling mailbox which can transmit letters back and forth two years before and after. As viewers are watching this, we are first wondering why didn't the 2 central characters didn't submit a proper picture of one another. We do eventually find out about the how but at the same time still doesn't make much sense. Also, just like "Let Me In" what works well in another country, in this case South Korea does not always mean that it'll work here in North America since customs and traditions are entirely different. The movie could've been frightening at first which would've made the movie much more interesting but what we get are people giving the other people the benefit of the doubt so to speak.
Although, it's a remake of another movie, this Hollywood version almost feels like another Nicolas Sparks movie. I mean, throughout the entire time we sometimes wonder how come those specific things(mostly letters) have to be put in to the Lake house mailbox why drag the audience with more pointless letters when it could've been over quickly.
2 out of 4 stars.
