Unfairly regarded as The Coen Brothers' weakest and disgustingly battered by the bitter British critics, The Ladykillers is a terrific remake of the classic Ealing Comedy. Quirky, dark, hilarious, masterfully written, directed and acted.
Its humour may be considerably cruder and more cartoony than its predecessor but it never hurts the quality of the film itself. It merely makes it more of a modern retelling. Also the fact that Tom Hanks was not nominated for an Oscar just goes to show how pointless they are.
A brilliant, underrated knockabout gem.
