Review of The Ladykillers (2004) by Matlock Z — 12 Dec 2010
A brilliantly written and directed dark comedy from the Coen brothers. With a cartoony aesthetic, beautifully saturated in the sights and sounds of the south, an incredible Gospel/Hip-Hop soundtrack, and some of the most pitch-perfect performances from an ensemble of great character actors.
It swings and rarely misses. Unfortunately for many people, its over-the-top humor was infused with a bit too much subtlety to be suitably recognized as comic genius.
