Review of The Lady Vanishes (1938) by Jen P — 27 Dec 2007
The Lady Vanishes offers everything a film needs to be enjoyable and memorable. Hitchcock combined mystery, suspense, comedy and romance, in just the right amounts to create a perfect film.
Miss Froy, an endearing old spinster, befriends Iris Henderson (Margaret Lockwood) on a train, but then disappears. Iris is frustrated in her efforts to find the lady, as none of the other passengers or staff will admit having seen her. Only Gilbert (Michael Redgrave) is willing to believe her. The script is excellent and supporting cast superb, especially Naunton Wayne and Basil Radford as the cricket mad Englishmen who steal every scene they appear in.
A real treat!
