Review of The Lady Vanishes (1938) by Al M — 14 Aug 2010
Tightly plotted train mysery from Hitchcock that explores the relation between paranoia and conspiracy: are the main character's experiences merely hallucinations caused by a blow to the head or has she indeed stumbled upon some sort of plot.
Hitchcock plays with this theme in a way that presages the later work of Pynchon and the conspiracy films of the 70s. An early tour-de-force that will not disappoint Hitchcock fans.
