Review of The Lady Vanishes (1938) by Chris B — 15 Dec 2011
Alfred Hitchcock's second to last British film is a masterpiece of suspense, British wit, detailed character development, and amazing direction from the master himself. With all the plot twists and angles and various subplots, there is a constant search for the truth and all the characters motives.
The cast is all excellent, dialogue is perverse and witty, and though limited to a studio set that was only 90 feet long, it seems you are on a moving train traveling about Europe. I was enamored the full running time and was completely satisfied in every possible way! "The Lady Vanishes" is a perfectly balanced action/suspense film with sly humor mixed in to give it a more lightweight feel.
I can't recommend this one enough, just see it! This has currently made my Top 25 Films of All Time that are in my collection!
