Review of The Lady Vanishes (1938) by Patrick B — 14 Jul 2012
One of Hitchcock's most riveting thrillers. Rohmer was right: there's not a whole lot to be read into here, except perhaps in relation to then-cultural norms, and in relation to the coming shift in the director's career.
It is a purely, masterfully crafted story. Hitchcock contributed to the language of cinema as much as Melies or Griffith.
