Review of The Lady from Shanghai (1947) by Matt T — 14 Apr 2010
Hello, weirdest!
Almost nothing makes sense in this movie, and yet it all does sort of make sense, like in a dream where you're at your house but it's not really your house but in the dream it's your house.
All of it's like that, from Rita Hayworth's blond hair, to Rita Hayworth's knowing Chinese, to Orson Welles's accent, to the lawyer guy's googly eye, to the comedic relief judge. Everything is nuts and nightmarish and hard to look away from.
