Review of The Lady from Shanghai (1947) by Eric H — 05 Feb 2013
The Lady from Shanghai, written, directed and starring Orson Welles, is a classic slice of Film Noir co-starring the lovely Rita Hayworth. Michael O'Hara (Welles) is hired as a crew member for a yacht owned by the wealthy Bannister (Everette Sloane).
He is married to Elsa (Rita Hayworth) who O'Hara had saved from a mugging earlier. A series of characters are introduced, creating a complex tale of blackmail, deception, and murder. Ultimately the innocent O'Hara is framed in this elaborate scheme.
This film features the imaginative "funhouse mirrors" scene. An excellent movie for Film Noir fans.
