Review of The Lady Eve (1941) by John N — 12 Feb 2012
Hilarious and a great love story, a rare romantic comedy that fulfilled all requirements. The chemistry between Henry Fonda and Barbara Stanwyck was simply magical. The card game scene with Fonda, Stanwyck, and Charles Coburn was absolute genius.
It definitely is a scene I could see multiple times. I also loved William Demarest as the straight man Muggsy, always warning Fonda's Charles Pike of imminent dangers but Pike always ignores him. Of course it would not have made for an excellent film if Pike actually followed Muggsy's advice.
Well written and amazingly fast paced, which made this film even greater. Wonderful film made by the underrated master Preston Sturges.
