Review of The Lady and the Duke (2001) by Jean-Francois V — 15 Jan 2008
Eric Rohmer's counter-revolutionary movie. The old, very old master switches sides, and tells the story of the Revolution from a royalist's point of view. Rohmer also uses the high-tech environment in a counter-revolutionary way: using digital technology he installs the characters into actual 18th century paintings.
Only a very old and wise man could have done this. It turnes everything upside down. A very humanistic movie and Lucy Russel is a great actress.
