Review of The Lady (2011) by Thomas B — 02 Dec 2011
One of the worst films of the year. The blame falls upon Luc Besson, who not only took the screenplay he was handed and tinkered with it to make it his own, but whose directing style is clearly all wrong for a biopic with subject matter of this magnitude.
The dialogue is flat and cheesy, the performances awkward, and there are scenes of unintentional humor which baffle and astonish. The film fails largely due to what it sets out accomplish, and how it somehow manages to miss the mark by such a wide margin.
It is neither an informative historical reference, nor an insightful biographical look at its subject.
