Review of The L-Shaped Room (1962) by Mikey M — 06 Mar 2013
This films great. filmed at the dawn of the sixties sexual revolution, it musta been pretty controversial in its day...covering homosexuality, abortion and and a good bit of pre- marital shinnanigins. Portrays contemporary attitudes very well to unmarried mothers and the hush hush style of lesbianism.
Tragic really, how women were often forced into terminations as they were deemed unfit to survive without male support. Gritty at times, addressing impoverished living , but not without fun times in smoky jazz clubs and days out in the park.
.where incidentally one should not lie down on the grass with a member of the opposite sex, for fear of getting a severe wrist slapping.
