Review of The King's Speech (2010) by Dov D — 20 Feb 2013
The film tells an interesting story about the psychological basis for stuttering, but I wanted more about the personal relationship between Bertie and Lionel, apparently a lifelong friendship. Somehow the whole is less than the sum of its admirable parts.
Geoffrey Rush is phenomenal. Firth's acting is less flashy, the total believability of the stutter is his triumph. Bonham Carter's Queen Elizabeth is delicious, if too good to be true.
