Review of The King's Speech (2010) by Jamie D — 27 Apr 2013
This film was a very enjoyable watch. Colin Firth acted well as Bertie. Acting a speech impediment must be incredibly tough. Not only does Firth achieve this, but he does it greatly, expressing all sorts of emotions while doing so.
I believe Geoffrey Rush has rightly been recognized for his performance, he is superb. The scenes between Bertie and Lionel were definatly the best in the film. These include a fantastic montage of them going through exercises to help Bertie, and the swearing scene, a unique method of speech therapy. This film was surprisingly funny also, with humourous dialogue bouncing off both our main characters.
This film also has a good ending that is genuinely tense and well done. The film does suffer a bit from the hype; it's not really a classic and isn't particularly memorable. Although can appreciate why people have taken a liking to it.
