Review of The King's Speech (2010) by Sergio R — 06 Sep 2012
You know, I REALLY wanted to give this film a chance and my likings. I saw it on HBO, and, although the acting was very good and Oscar worthy, overall it just didn't entice me. I guess because I wasn't familiar with King George VI or his story (sorry!) before this. I'm sure I'm not the only one! Anyway, that really didn't give me much to go on as the film kind of just jumped right in.
I got bored halfway through and pulled out the phone and laptop while it continued to play. I felt so bad afterwards (because, after all, this was a highly rated film) that the next Friday I decided to give it another go. I made it further!...but again pulled out the laptop before its conclusion.
I think it was the lack of knowledge beforehand, but it also could be because Helena Bonham Carter's hair annoyed me to no end in this film. That's really the only thing I took away from it. What was wrong with that hair? It was like curly but not puffy...and those bangs...and it just looked so fake. Bad wigs annoy me...
But in all seriousness now, just know the history before watching this film, and you may like it!
