Review of The King's Speech (2010) by Danny O — 11 Jun 2015
The King's Speech is a very interesting drama. The film is based on the true events of a king with speech impediment. The concept is interesting, and the King is expertly portrayed by Colin Firth. The rest of the cast is really excellent.
The story is really engaging for the first hour, then slows down for quite some time before reaching a great finale. The writing and directing are great. The movie is quite predictable though. The emotional core of the film is very strong, a bond between Firth and his speech therapist is very well developed over the course of the film.
It may be a bit slow, predictable, and not very rewatchable, but this movie is excellently made with great performances. The King's Speech gets 4/5 stars (A-).
