Review of The Kings of Summer (2013) by Kevin K — 01 May 2013
The Kings of Summer fell somewhere on the spectrum between The Sandlot and Stand by Me. With a premise that could easily lend itself to somber emotional darkness or youthful fantasy, the director managed to maintain a healthy level of levity and humor amidst each of the character's journeys. Offerman was in top form for this role, and the strain between him and his son is almost tangible as they prove that they are cut from the same cloth.
This is the first movie of the year that I feel is a MUST see.
