"The Kings of Summer" is clearly a debut theatrical picture for director Jordan Vogt-Roberts. It often wrestles with balancing its two distinct identities; one a hilarious coming-of-age comedy and one an artful, blissful, entrancingly sunbaked love letter to summer.
Neither stumbles - in fact they're both quite magnificent - but the transitioning is pretty weak (once again, understandably considering this is a first feature). Lots of love for the performers here, too.
Y'all did damn good.
