Review of The Kings of Summer (2013) by Steven H — 13 Nov 2013
A strangeness in tonality throughout THE KINGS OF SUMMER starts the film feeling a little at odds with its naturalistic imagery and setting. Seeming to throw random interjections through an off kilter character and editing gives the film an awkward, skewed flow; which could have proved a hindrance, had it not blossomed throughout the film as it ultimately did.
THE KINGS OF SUMMER is far from perfect, but through a series of fine performances and memorable scenery, it becomes slowly enveloping.
