Review of The Kings of Summer (2013) by Steve W — 13 Dec 2013
The coming of age film is still here. Moonrise Kingdom, Spectacular Now, The Way Way Back, and now The Kings of Summer.
Tired of their invasive home lives, two friends and a tag along build a makeshift clubhouse in the middle of the woods. They decide to become independent, free, and explore nature in their little vacation away from home.
Along the way they experience true life moments, such as heartbreak, relationships falling apart and being mended again. The acting is top notch and all the players add a little something.
The only thing I didn't care for was the preppy animal shots, which made this film a little too art house for my tastes.
