Review of The Kings of Summer (2013) by Jaime D — 31 Dec 2013
Apparently had rave reviews at Sundance... Really ?!... if so then you couldn't find a finer example of the of the emperors new clothes... predictable, shallow, smug, and thinking its much smarter than it is.
The characters are arch types acting out familiar themes and plot arcs whilst spitting out cheesy dialogue... added to all this there is an unintended irony in a film about kids returning to the simple life filmed in a plastic disposable nation MTV style that seems to have gone unnoticed by all those giving this the thumbs up.
