Review of The Kings of Summer (2013) by Gavin S — 19 Jan 2014
A good solid movie about friendship, families, and the joy of summer when you're a teenager and you have no responsibilities. Solid acting from the 3 boys, and Nick Offerman is his usual acerbic, sarcastic self.
Nothing really surprising here, as though it started off as a comedy and tried to become a coming-of-age dramedy halfway through. That being said, it still came off as fairly authentic, not preachy, smarmy or too dumbed down the way a movie can be when it's director doesn't understand anyone under 21 (luckily not the case here).
The strongest part of this movie to me is Moises Arias as Biaggio, the super weird kid who just hangs around and ends up as part of the group with Joe and Patrick. He's the McLovin of this group, but with far more heart and even more of an oddball, which endears him to you entirely.
He steals every scene he's in. Decent, worth watching if it interests you, but not essential.
