Review of The Kings of Summer (2013) by Ray H — 11 Jul 2013
This is a pretty decent movie. The story idea was just so-so. Not much new is offered. We have the age-old conflict of teenagers separating from their parents.
The best parts are the lead character, Joe (Nick Robinson) and his interactions with his father Frank (Nick Offerman). Both actors are very good. Their individual dialogues and their verbal interactions are very well written. Frank is very entertaining as an over-bearing parent. The parents of his best friend are also well acted and their dialogue is also well written.
There is considerable humor. There are many set pieces and good-feelings for some young boys trying to get some breathing room from their overweening parents. They take off into the woods. After some time, they return to the world.
Its an OK trip to the flics.
