Review of The Kings of Summer (2013) by Agustin G — 10 Oct 2013
Watched Kings of Summer last night. There's no punches thrown in this coming-of-age story that haven't really been covered in other films in the past. The thing that makes this movie rather EH is the central character, a whinny, ungrateful, petulant brat.
What makes this movie tolerable is the supporting characters that help shift the unlike-ability from the main character that vary from the bizarre to the strangely quirky/annoying, warm characters in between to even out the madness.
Overall, it's a good movie. Yes, it has it's faults, but it does have it's moments that keep you watching. Perhaps not a true original, but it tries to play with the format to make it its own.
