Review of The Kingdom of Dreams and Madness (2013) by Marina A — 28 Oct 2014
Director Mami Sunada is given unprecedented access to Studio Ghibli and Hayao Miyazaki during the making of The Wind Rises, quite possibly Miyazaki's last film and the result is a move that not only pulls back the layers to reveal the inner workings of the famed studio but also the drive, passion and heart that goes into the making of an animated film, especially The Wind Rises which we learn has a particularly personal importance for Miyazaki.
A wonderful, often sad and joyous documentary about a man and an art form that is slowly disappearing.
