Review of The Kingdom of Dreams and Madness (2013) by Scott R — 02 Oct 2016
I guess the film was made for Miyazaki fans who already have an investment in, and knowledge of, his life and works. The film doesn't catch us up on many of the basics, but instead takes a really personal view.
Great for the hard core fan, but some portions of the film felt like we were listening to the half-baked mutterings of an old man and taking them very seriously because that old man is Miyazaki. Is he interesting enough to warrant this much close up screen time? His films may be a little more impressive than the man himself.
