Review of The Kingdom (2014) by Peter N — 31 Aug 2012
The Kingdom has an interesting premise and promising actors in the lead roles, but the whole thing gets caught in its own excessiveness, preventing it from standing out. The action sequences are great, which is a good thing seeing as how the entire film relies on them to keep things going.
However, there's not much depth to the story or whatever political message it is trying to evoke. Honestly, you can speed through what few dialogue-laden scenes there are and just watch all the shooting and explosions and you'll still feel like you haven't missed anything.
There are a few exciting sequences of stuff getting blown up, but I was a little bit turned off by the senseless violence that serves little purpose to the structure of the film. Action junkies should find this worthy of watching, but everyone else will find it mediocre at best.
