Review of The Kingdom (2014) by Jason R — 11 Feb 2013
I really dug The Kingdom. Hooked its lures by some artsy opening creds. Then shoved me into the story with an intense and horrifying opening. The rest of the film is the investigation of the openings terrible events, and this is where the movie probably loses a majority of its audience because not much happens. We get to discuss the human element behind terrorism, and even though we seem to be beating a dead horse in movies like this these days, this one worked for me. And yes, the film has a MAJOR payoff in its climax that made me climax. Fucking gripping. I left nail marks in my theater seat. If you can bear to sit through the films middle, you'll come out pleased. Good day sirs.
P.S. Why was Piven in this movie? He plays Ari Gold as a U.S. Ambassador. That cracks my shit up.
