Review of The Kingdom (2007) by Lee B — 28 Oct 2010
This is a fairly technical action movie with the "ripped from the headlines" social take to drive it. When I say technical, I don't mean CSI or something like that, I mean the story is rather textbook in its progression and the script is very clean. No one needs to do much acting because the lines and interaction is made to express what is supposed to be felt.
When the action happens, it is good. The production is good. The social subtext is good. It is a thinking action movie that aspires to be a no-brain kind. But there is nothing very special about this movie. It has some nice round about morality, but that just undercuts what is happening in the action. I had seen it before, but it was perfect this last time because I just left it on while doing something else and I could occasionally just look over and see something interesting.
