Review of The Kingdom (2007) by Bobby K — 05 Oct 2009
In short, "The Kingdom" was kind of a CSI-in-AFghanistan type of film. It is kind of a stretch to call it a war film proper, though the backdrop is certainly prevalent. It seems as if there are people that appreciate this film due to it's lack of commentary.
Rather the viewing the actual conflict from any point of view, the central theme is basically just an individual bombing incident and the subsequent investigation. Like most police procedurals, it walks the viewer through a myriad of clues leading up to the finale.
"The Kingdom" never attempts any semblance of depth or examination of the characters or the events. It kept my interest well enough one time through, but it won't change your life.
