Review of The Kingdom (2007) by Jesse S — 03 Sep 2012

A team of U.S. government agents investigate the bombing of an American compound in Saudi Arabia. Apparently this movie is loosely based on real events. Maybe it's just me but after the opening sequence this movie shifts down several gears.

Jamie Foxx is unconvincing, he drops bad lines in every scene he's in (which is most) and Chris Cooper tries too hard to be a tough guy. Everyone else you couldn't care less about. Jason Bateman is good for some mild comic relief.

I kept hearing about the suspense of the last fifteen minutes. Sure compared to the rest of the movie it was suspenseful but if you don't care about the characters it still isn't enough to save the movie.

A word to the queezy. lots of unsteady cam and quick edits in this one if you are prone, bring a barf bag.
