Review of The King of Marvin Gardens (1972) by Caleb M — 09 Jan 2011
An engaging and well-acted drama from BBS, but not as powerful as Five Easy Pieces or iconic as Easy Rider. It falls somewhere in the middle, being a better picture than Easy Rider, but not as memorable.
The performances really drive the picture more than the (somewhat slapdash) Monopoly references ever could. Nicholson, Dern, Burstyn and Robinson are all excellent, and Atlantic City is used for some very effectively depressing atmosphere.
