Review of The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters (2007) by Steve S — 01 Jun 2009
An incrediable and eye opening documentry on how seriously the world of arcade video game competing gets. Set in America the main focus follows on two characters, one who has the record of Donkey Kong champion (Billy Mitchell) for many years and a family guy (Steve Wiebe) who beats his record. The filming directs you in a way that you end up having a favorite (Steve) and the sore loser (Billy). Wherever this is intentional or just extremley very clever editing to show heavy/heated competition.
Highlights show the following of close fans that Billy has and how they smile behind there teeth at fellow contestant Steve. This in fact is the main point that wants you too root for family man steve. Seth Gordon has done a great job on directing and creating this documentary and finding this world thats hiding away in subarbs of America.
With great Mullett haircuts throughout it is a joy to watch.
