Review of The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters (2007) by Ian P — 17 Nov 2010
A oddly interesting documentary (catch it on Sky Arts) about people who take playing video games FAR too seriously.
Billy Mitchell is the PR friendly long-time holder of the record score on the arcade game Donkey Kong.
Steve Wiebe sets up a machine in his garage and beats that score.
Then lots of people start arguing about it.
Is someone cheating?
And what's the mysterious video tape showing an even higher score being made?.
Will Billy ever take on Steve in a live showdown to decide once and for all?.
Surprisingly this is all makes for a very watchable film, ven if most of the participants really need to get out into the open air and get a life!
