Review of The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters (2007) by Aslyn E — 02 Jun 2011
A hidden gem of a doc. This follows the top two Donkey Kong players in the world as they compete for the world record top score. It's full of the funniest, nerdiest people I've ever seen. To think that these people are for real is just hilarious. The star of the show is Billy Mitchell, officially dubbed "gamer of the century he is so arrogant about a skill that no one cares about execpt theses geeks. He's comes out with some great quotes that reveal his misguided sense of fame.
"No matter what I say it's controversal, sort of like the abortion issue"- LMAO! TO see the sub-culture of extreme hardcore arcade gaming is fascinating especially for a gamer like myself. There are a lot of politics, conflicts and the fact that it's all over a hi-score on DK only adds to the giggles. It does go off on a couple of tangents which I didn't really like but when it's focused on the core story it's the best unintentional comedy I've seen in years.
