Review of The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters (2007) by Max D — 07 Feb 2012
I'm a big video game fan, unfortunately I played more Atari games like Centipede than Donkey Kong but this still caught my attention. I never knew holding a video game world record was so damn important, now I wanna rush off to an arcade and try to beat Donkey Kong.
..or maybe Pac-man. Regardless my attention was a bit elsewhere during my first watch through. (I plan on watching it again later) But I loved watching it when it had my full focus. I liked when we're introduced to Steve Wiebe and how focused he gets on the game.
I learned a few tricks which I wanna use when I play Donkey Kong. He's just a likable character while not as great an underdog as a character like Rocky Balboa he still fun to watch. I think I mostly liked this movie for its subject on games.
You feel cheated as he does when Billy Mitchell takes his victory away not once, but twice. I'm sure after a second watch with more of my attention, I'll give this movie a score of 100, but who knows.
Maybe I'll knock it down to 80. Regardless this was a great documentary.
