Review of The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters (2007) by Gabe M — 21 Sep 2012
"I wanted the glory, I wanted the fame. I wanted the pretty girls to come up and say, "Hi, I see that you're good at Centipede." Haha I'm glad I'm not a nerd of this caliber.
Definitely one of the most entertaining documentaries out there, right up there with Exit Through The Gift Shop. Don't worry, if you're not into video games or documentaries, you'll still have a great time; there's good guys, bad guys, weird guys, conspiracies, tons of jokes, and also a story with heart.
I hope I never meet this Billy Mitchell guy, what a scum bucket. And the director said "I tried to paint him in a GOOD light, cuz he's much worse than this,"...yikes! My only problem with it is that no matter how long they would have waited to make this movie, it'd always be outdated.
Yes, this is a good chronicle of the Billy and Steve rivalry, but over the 6 years after the movie takes place, the score has changed hands tons of times, and the movie doesn't even mention the new guy that has the current record (and the last 3 records).
His name his Hank Chien by the way, so now there's 3 guys trying to have the title of #1 (hey, this rivalry is just like the plot of Afro Samurai haha). But anywho, I loved it, and highly recommend it.
