Review of The King of Comedy (1982) by Peter B — 03 Jun 2008
A great little black comedy with a fantastic performance from DeNiro. He plays a character both creepy and funny sometimes at the same time....to sum it up I'd say it's like a funny version of Taxi Driver.
It's mostly a comedy but in the mould of Dr. Strangelove where it's not laugh a minute but it's about something and you dont laugh your head off but you smile non stop and the tone remains consistently comedic.
A Scorsese film that gets overlooked because of the sheer cinematic gold the man makes. It is the definition of a hidden gem and it is all held together by The Niro in one of his best and most overlooked performances.
