Review of The King of Comedy (1982) by Luis Angel G — 01 Aug 2008
Personally, I think Sandra Bernhard steals the whole movie. I love the part where she strips down to her underwear and tries to make love to her idol, who is duct-taped to his chair.
I also think the satire has died a little, over the past 25 years. In the youtube age, a nebbish with no talent really can get his fame. Look at the "Leave Britney Alone" guy.
Not bad movie. DeNiro made a wonderful Rupert Pupkin, at once pitiable and totally deranged. The ending was frustrating though. Did Pupkin really get his fame, or was that all a delusion?
