Review of The King of Comedy (1982) by Jack K — 23 Aug 2008
A nonviolent companion piece to Taxi Driver that finds its own sort of human violence in Rupert Pupkin's humiliating and pathetic attempt for fame. The King of Comedy is a story about alienation, and for every laugh there's also a cringe.
A brilliant character piece for De Niro, one of his most underrated performances.
