Review of The King of Comedy (1982) by Kevin W — 24 Nov 2009
A very good movie about obsession and pursuing goals. Not a great directing effort from Scorsese, but that's not where the greatness oif the film lies. The acting is phenomenal. Robert DeNiro is brilliant as Rupert Pupkin.
So creepy, funny, and desperate, he brings everything. Ranks up with his bests. Jerry Lewis shines as De Niro's obsession. So cold to Rupert and yet clueless about the effect he has on him. Sandra Bernhard is ridiculous and the creepiest character in the film.
Her obsession with Jerry is way to creepy and her friendship with Rupert is funny. Great writing, solid directing, really good movie.
