Review of The King of Comedy (1982) by Matthew W — 14 Mar 2010
Fantastic and classic teaming of Scorsese and Di Niro explores the terrifying side of celebrity, obsession, and the struggle for success. Extremely tense and unnerving, Di Niro is terrific as wannabe comedian Rupert Pupkin, as is Jerry Lewis as the talk-show host who Pupkin becomes obsessed with.
Scorsese's older films always made great use of New York's streets and a supporting cast made up mostly of unknowns. Probably my favorite Di Niro character.
