Review of The King of Comedy (1982) by Cody C — 16 Sep 2011
Very funny dark satire. One of Scorsese's best. Everyone is great in this, though DeNiro gives an inconsistent performance. Don't get me wrong, he's great like 90% of the time, but there are some parts (like when he's yelling at his mom) where he's playing it for laughs rather than what's true to the character.
Jerry Lewis is the biggest surprise here. He turns in a fantastic dramatic performance. And Sandra Bernhard is awesome too. I wish they had gotten more dramatic roles after this.
