Review of The King of Comedy (1982) by Brian R — 14 Jun 2012
The King Of Comedy is a campion piece to Taxi Driver(when you watch the flim more you'll see why). Bob DeNiro plays Rupert Pupkin who a nerdish man in his 30s who fantasizes himself as a television star. Idiolizing big sensation Jerry Langford played well by Jerry Lewis.
I thought the film was good, very well shot, and the performances is phenomenal. Its also a hard movie to watch cuz it was like Pupkin(DeNiro) never listens of getting rejected he is always naive about it and never really shows any hostility. He just calmly smiles and pretends to take things lightly. I guess that was Scorsese's intent. ok then.
The last parts of the film is an insight into how fame and celebrity have after commiting a famous crime. The King Of Comedy is a light picture compaired to Scorsese's Raging Bull but its a good picture not a bad one.
Flaws: the kidnapping, no real big scenes, some of the slap stick comedy wasn't that funny, unrealistic confusing dream sequences, sometimes frustrating to watch.
