Review of The King of Comedy (1982) by Aaron H — 06 Aug 2014
This one is a really good film and certainly one of Martin Scorsese's least Scorsese films, though still a great one from him and it certainly is a great example of his skill as a director. This is also a great showcase for Robert De Niro.
This one may be a comedy, but it is classic De Niro as he plays this weird, troubled character brilliantly and really elevates this one up a level without question. The script is also riotously funny and poignant at the same time, in particular the ending, which undoubtedly rings true.
The more thrilling and dramatic elements are also very good and this film can be very "edge of your seat" at times. Overall, The King of Comedy is a very good, very funny, very entertaining, film from Scorsese and De Niro that really shows how great the two are together.
