Review of The King and I (1956) by Matt M — 09 May 2013
Roger and Hammerstein's Broadway musical gets a big screen treatment that just happens to be one of the most loved classics of the genre. Based on the story of a British school teacher who becomes advisor and love interest for the King of Siam, this film is not just memorable for its wonderful soundtrack and a magical atmosphere also achieved thanks to the wonderful art direction; it is also because of the performances, with Yul Brynner's as the headstrong ruler who discovers a heart of gold particularly amazing.
