Review of The King and I (1956) by Calum B — 25 Jul 2013
Dude, I can't remember the last time I gave a film five stars. I loved this film, love, love, LOVE this film! So wonderful, so beautiful but overall, and mostly, very, very modern. And not horribly racist considering it was made in 1956.
Yes Rita Moreno can play Siamese and Hispanic but who cares she does both so well! And it lost best picture that year?! WTF! This is a masterpiece! Sets, costumes, MUSIC! I adored it. Yul Brynner is crazy and perfectly cast in this role.
The scene where they dance is so hot. "The Small House of Uncle Tom" is amazing- cinematic wonder! I loved every minute of this not overly classical classic Hollywood film!
