Review of The Killing Room (2009) by Steve O — 29 Aug 2009
Quite how they would have got this psychological trial through ethics is beyond me. This film is worth viewing & has a both satisfying & thought-provoking pay-off in the final scenes. taking a different approach to the classic 70's conspiracy/sleeper movies, this film puts us in the viewing gallery of a MK-Ultra type military experiment in a research facility where the participant subjects have no idea as to the extreme nature of the trial they have volunteered for.
the cast are good, particularly timothy hutton, but it might have been an idea to have peter stormare turn the creep-o-meter down a bit as the lead scientist. I liked the overall feel of this, more like a play than a movie, which will probably bore the hell out of most people.
a little like being inside the cogs of 'The Parallax View' (although no way on par with it) with a twist of modern-day relevance. I did just sit there in cold contemplation afterward.
