Review of The Killing of John Lennon (2007) by Dustin G — 01 May 2010
This is definitely a case of the story being much better than the movie. Jonas Ball is good as the Chapman loser, but the film feels very low budget and underproduced. It tries for a kind of art house type style but that just gets in the way of a story that should be told straightforward and with a more less is more approach. I mean honestly, the movie takes place in 1980 and at one point Chapman is taking a cab ride through Times Square in New York and there are advertisements for Lord of the Rings movie and an Offspring record that came out 25 years later. Now THAT'S amateur.
This story is too powerful, sad and important to be told in such a shoddy way. If it wasn't for Jonas Ball and the story itself, I'd say skip this altogether. As it is, I think you'd be better off waiting for a better movie of this story that will come out at some point. I hope.
